5 Engagement Photos Outfits Tips You Need From Pittsburgh Photographers

As engagement photographers, we understand the desire to pick out the perfect engagement photos outfits. At the end of the day, it’s not as complicated as it seems. Not only are we here to help our clients with selecting their attire, we’re also here now to help you with a few tips to keep in mind while you’re making the decision!

1. Don’t be afraid of bold choices

Your engagement photoshoot is your time to shine! Sometimes, it seems people can want things to be timeless and maybe that makes them play it safe and pick something neutral. Neutral colors can be done well, but we want people to not be afraid to be a little extra! Mix in some color, patterns, and textures. These things can really take your photos to the next level and make you love them even more!

2. Dress like yourself

You are going to look your best when you feel your best. You will want these photos to truly represent you because 10 or 20 years from now you will want to look back at these photos and see yourselves in them. In order to do this, you want to make sure your engagement photos outfits are “you,” even if that’s an elevated version of yourself stepping a little bit out of your comfort zone!

3. Layers make it versatile

Layers make it super easy to add variety to your engagement photos without the need to do a full outfit change. Scarves and cardigans can give you something to play with to enhance your session, too! Hats or coats in the fall and winter are actually things you would want to wear and they can also become a part of your “look.”

4. Consider your setting

Your engagement photos outfits should make sense for where you are. Dress up a little for your downtown session or be prepared for the hike at McConnell’s Mill!

5. Or be creative and fully out of the box!

If you want to really go for it, you can do super fun full on cosplay! Let’s recreate your favorite movie or book characters! We can go full D&D with your session! Your favorite fantasy novel or Bridgerton look! If you like this idea but want to keep it a little closer to the edge of the box, go with your favorite graphic or character tees. We’re so here for any awesome, unique ideas you want to try!

If we could only give one piece of advice when it comes to engagement photos outfits, it would be #1 - don’t be afraid to make bold choices. It’s important to us that you’re having fun in your engagement photos! People can really feel the pressure of other people’s expectations or the idea that they’re doing what they think they should do, but the freedom for our clients to be themselves is our main priority. Use your engagement shoot as an opportunity to ask the question of “who are we together and what do we want to say about ourselves?”

When you book us for your engagement photos, we are happy to discuss outfit ideas and give our input. We find it can be really helpful to chat about ideas and you can text us pictures of the outfit options that you are deciding between. We always want to help you have the best session possible!

Reach out if you’re interested in an engagement session with us - we’d love to help tell your love story!
