Deep Romantic Connection | Couples Boudoir Session in Pittsburgh
We’ve had the honor of working with our good friends Kyle & Laura several times over the years, capturing their growing family. This couples boudoir session that was focused on just them and their love story felt really awesome, special, and different. We loved getting to document their connection this way so much!
We wanted to show the depths of their relationship and their deep affection for each other in a very honest way that also happens to be intimate and sensual (and maybe even steamy!). With that being said, we are not trying to put anything on or contrive anything that isn't already present. The goal of the photo session wasn't "create sexy photos," our goal of the session was for them to have a real experience of connection and we were just there to document it.
We talked with Kyle and Laura a lot about our vision for the session as well as their vision and something that came through our conversations was that a lot of boudoir we've seen feels maybe overtly sexual and that isn't really our style. We were so grateful for their trust in us. It's always a vulnerable thing to be in front of the camera and more so for a couples boudoir session.
It was important to us to create an atmosphere of total acceptance and for them to just really focus on each other and enjoy each other. Before we began, we talked through different levels of clothing and how they wanted to move through those differing states of undress. There was lots of communication to make sure everyone was comfortable.
Kyle and Laura have such a beautiful relationship and incredible connection that it was so easy to photograph them! They really trusted us and they were fully present to each other. They came into the session really on the same page with each other and were not taking themselves too seriously so they really seemed free and at ease to be silly, sexy, and just enjoy being together. It was perfect!
We loved the light in East End Loft Studios. We hadn’t shot there before, but we wanted a homey and private space with lots of natural light. Lucky for us, East End Loft Studios was a perfect fit!
We were very intentional in not saying much posing wise beyond offering reassurance or maybe moving them throughout the space between different set ups. Letting them truly take the lead and be in the moment with each other was important to us to keep the authenticity of their connection. Taking a step back allowed us to not disrupt their own natural inclinations to just be close with each other, kiss whenever they wanted to, and just be totally soaking in each other’s presence. We really wanted to create safety and openness for them so that they have photos of how they genuinely are with each other, not photos of where we told them to be or how to be with each other.
Some of our favorite photos were when we handed them our Instax camera to take some pictures of each other and the look on their faces as they gave each other direction and took each other's picture was so pure and true and perfectly beautiful!
