Magical Outdoor Wedding at Succop Nature Park | Mehrgol & Jasper
There were so many magical moments throughout Mehrgol & Jasper’s wedding and the time we spent together leading up to it. From when we first met and immediately bonded over our love of stories and photography, to their romantic engagement session in the spots that helped build their relationship, all the way to their beautiful outdoor wedding at Succop Nature Park.
Everything about Succop Nature Park just feels like it belongs in Pride and Prejudice. This venue wasn’t particularly special to them in its meaningfulness, but it was definitely special in what this outdoor wedding venue provides. It has the most marvelous cottage house, a very romantic outdoor space for the ceremony, a large outdoor covered space for the reception, and the grounds are filled with whimsy and beauty. The willow tree, the pond, the flowers, the greenhouse - the list goes on forever with the great spaces to use for photography! It was the perfect space to have this extraordinary wedding, green and lush and so charming!
Truly the best part of this wedding was that Mehrgol and Jasper had a vision for this world that they wanted to invite their guests into, and they made it happen. It was important to them that their guests felt the warmth, love, and magic that lives in their special relationship. They interpreted, blended, and modernized unique cultural elements that are meaningful to them and celebrated them as a couple. Through colors and decorations inspired by Persian designs, themes, artworks, and practices, they built the world they were envisioning. Not only did they pull traditions from Mehrgol’s Iranian background like the Sofreh Aghd, but they also incorporated American wedding traditions and African American traditions like jumping the broom at the end of the ceremony.
The Sofreh Aghd is a beautiful low table full of different culturally meaningful items. We loved the intentionality and elegance of this part of their ceremony! Another Persian tradition we so enjoyed was the knife dance or Raghseh Chagoo, organized and led by Mehrgol's sister Mehrnaz. This was SUCH an amazingly fun tradition to watch and their song choice really amped up the crowd. It had everyone clapping along and enjoying it! Mehrnaz made it seem like she didn't know where the knife was and it was so funny because Mehrgol and Jasper looked genuinely concerned for a moment until they realized it was all part of the act. Then the knife gets passed to other friends and family, each taking turns dancing to the couple, but none giving them the knife. It is such a playful, cheeky, and fun time!
Another way they blended their backgrounds was their first dance. It was a choreographed fusion dance with an English song (You are the Best Thing by Sophia Faith) that then transitioned to a Farsi song (Yeki Boud Yeki Naboud by Black Cats). It was a surprise for their guests and - wow! It was such a delight to watch and photograph!
Yes indeed, everything went off without a hitch throughout this enchanting wedding. There was so much intentionality to every part of this day. Mehrgol and Jasper poured so much love into crafting every part of their wedding, and you could truly feel their love story unfolding around you. They wanted it to feel like stepping into a fairy-tale world, a "Persian Bridgerton" as they described it, and we truly did feel transported to another realm on this day!
We could truly go on and on with how much we loved being a part of this meaningful and love-filled day. Mehrgol & Jasper’s connection to story was so wonderful, and we just had such a marvelous time getting to be a part of it all!
